IPL 2024 Points Table: SRH Rise To Third Spot, MI Slip To...Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 277-3 for the highest-ever Indian Premier League total and went on to beat Mumbai Indians by 31 runs in a six-hitting festival on Wednesday. Australia s Travis Head made a 24-ball 62 to lead the assault after Hyderabad batted first and went past the previous IPL best of 263-5 by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013. Mumbai replied strongly in the match which witnessed 38 sixes for another IPL record, bettering the 33 hits over the fence clubbed three times in earlier seasons.
Left-handed Tilak Varma stood out with his 64 in 34 balls for Mumbai but the effort was not enough on a batting-friendly pitch in veteran batsman Rohit Sharma s 200th IPL match.
Rohit smashed a 12-ball 26 and fellow opener Ishan Kishan made 34 to give Mumbai a flying start but the innings lost momentum after 10 overs due to the ever-increasing asking rate.
Tim David smashed an unbeaten 42 in a late charge but the chase was beyond reach as Mumbai ended on 246-5 -- the team s highest IPL total.
After the victory in the game, SRH rose to the third spot in the points table while MI slipped to the ninth spot in the standings.
Have a look at updated IPL 2024 points table here:
It was records galore as the match also featured the highest run aggregate of 523 runs in 17 years of the IPL.
Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins was the best of the bowlers with 2-35 in his four overs of pace, leading his side to their first win of the season.
Earlier the left-handed Head, dropped on five by David off skipper Hardik Pandya, reached his fifty in 18 balls and after his departure Abhishek Sharma reached his half-century off just 16.
The team s 100 came up in only seven overs and Hyderabad posted the tournament s highest ever total in the first 10 overs of 148-2.
Abhishek fell for 63 off 23 balls but there was no respite for the bowlers who were at the receiving end of some punishing batting.
It was raining boundaries in Hyderabad s innings with 18 sixes and 19 fours as the South African pair of Heinrich Klaasen (80 not out in 34 balls) and Aiden Markram, who hit 42, posted an unbeaten stand of 116.
Mumbai s South African import Kwena Maphaka had a bruising introduction to IPL when the 17-year-old left-arm quick went for 66 runs in his four overs.
Five-time winners Mumbai, who had a change in captaincy after Pandya took over from the experienced Rohit, and Hyderabad started this edition with a loss each.

Happiest Person : Kavya Maran s Reaction Viral As SRH Thrash MI. Watch
For SunRisers Hyderabad, Wednesday will be remembered for a long time. They not just defeated Mumbai Indians by 31 runs, but did so after registering 277/3 in the first innings - the highest-ever IPL score. Three SRH batters smashed quickfire fifties as SRH made MI look an ordinary team. Travis Head, playing his first IPL game this season, blasted a 24-ball 62, while Abhishek Sharma slammed 63 off 23 to lay the foundation. Heinrich Klassen (80 not out) and Aiden Markram (42 not out) provided the late charge to take the hosts past the 250-mark. The previous highest total was 263 for five, achieved by Royal Challengers Bangalore back in 2013.

— GOAT 31 (@daveyyyy31) March 27, 2024Earlier, Fifties from Heinrich Klassen, Abhishek Sharma, and Travis Head tore the Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling attack apart, as SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered the highest score in the history of IPL which is 277/3 in their 20 overs on Wednesday.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked the hosts, SRH, to bat first at Hyderabad s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Openers Mayank Aggarwal and Travis Head came out to bat. Both the batters played attacking shots from the start of the innings. They built a partnership of 45 runs in just 4 overs before Mayank was dismissed on the first ball of the innings by Hardik. He was able to score 11 runs.
SRH completed their fifty in the 4.4 overs Head slammed a boundary on the bowling of Pandya.
After Mayank s dismissal, Abhishek Sharma came out to bat. He along with Head built a partnership of 68 runs from just 23 balls. Head was sent back to the pavilion after playing an outstanding knock of 62 runs in 24 balls which was laced with nine fours and three sixes in the innings.
The hosts touched the 100-run nark on the last ball of the seventh over as Abhishek smashed a six to leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.
After Head s wicket, former SRH skipper Aiden Markram came to support Abhishek. Both the batters played brilliantly and put on a partnership of 48 runs in just 19 balls before Abhishek was dismissed after playing a marvellous innings of 63 runs in just 23 balls with the help of seven maximums and three boundaries.
The Hyderabad franchise completed the 150-run mark on the second ball of the 11th over as the left-hand batter took a single on the bowling of Chawla.
SRH s 277/3 Is Not The Highest In T20 Format - A Look At Top Team Totals
Records tumbled left-right and centre as Sunrisers Hyderabad smashed 277 for three, the highest total in IPL history, to leave Mumbai Indians shell shocked on Wednesday. Travis Head (62 off 24) and Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) came up with a sensational display of power-hitting, that saw the latter snatching the franchise record for fastest fifty from the Australian within minutes. Heinrich Klaasen (80 not out off 34 balls) provided the fireworks in the end to help SRH break an 11-year-old record. The previous highest total in IPL was 263 for five achieved by Royal Challengers Bangalore back in 2013.
It was raining fours and sixes throughout the innings as Head and Sharma toyed with the Mumbai Indians attack.
Head, who was surprisingly left out of the playing eleven for the opening game, reinforced his status as one of the most dangerous batters in the game with a whirlwind effort.
He broke David Warner s record of the fastest fifty by a SRH batter with a 18-ball half-century before Sharma surpassed Head s feat 20 balls later by reaching the milestone in 16 balls.
Head, who was dropped by compatriot Tim David at the start of his innings, opened his front leg and hit boundaries at will, collecting nine fours and three sixes in total.
The southpaw completed his fifty with an inside out four wide of mid-off before dispatching a bouncer from Gerald Coetzee for a six over deep midwicket, prompting opposition skipper Hardik Pandya to acknowledge the Australian s brutal assault.
When Head departed, Sharma went hammer and tongs, mostly targeting the cow corner region for his seven sixes and three boundaries.
It was a nightmarish start to the IPL for the 17-year-old South Africa pacer Kwena Maphaka, who made the Mumbai Indians squad at the back of his exploits in the U-19 World Cup.
He leaked as many as 66 runs in his four overs. The left-arm pacer could not recover from Head s onslaught in his second over in which he conceded 22 runs.
With the majority of the Mumbai bowlers taken to the cleaners, it was surprising that Mumbai Indians skipper Pandya waited till the 13th over to give Jasprit Bumrah his second over.
Following Sharma s dismissal, the in-form Klaasen ensured there was no stopping to the SRH s six hitting spree. Klaasen ended up with seven sixes with the maximum off a Bumrah bouncer standing out.
Klaasen had almost taken SRH over the line with his breathtaking knock against KKR at the Eden Gardens.
Former skipper Aiden Markram chipped in 42 off 28 balls.
However, SunRisers Hyderabad s 277/3 is not the highest score in the shortest format.

Before this, Royal Challengers Bengaluru had scored 263/5 against Pune Warriors in 2013. On Wednesday, the SRH batters onslaught ensured that the 11-year old record was broken.
SunRisers Hyderabad batters went hammer and tongs right from the word go as Mumbai Indians were just clueless. Abhishek Sharma hit a 16-ball fifty while Travis Head hit half-century in 18 balls. Courtesy their onslaught SRH scored 148 in 10 overs - the highest in IPL history.

Talking about the game, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a mammoth 277 for three, the highest total in IPL history, against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. Sent in to bat, Travis Head, playing his first IPL game this season, blasted a 24-ball 62, while Abhishek Sharma slammed 63 off 23 to lay the foundation.
Heinrich Klassen (80) and Aiden Markram (42) provided the late charge to take the hosts past the 250-mark.
The previous highest total was 263 for five, achieved by RCB back in 2013.
It was a nightmare for the MI bowlers as all of them, barring Jasprit Bumrah (0/36), ended up leaking more than 10 runs per over.
MI could manage 246/5 in 20 overs.
Brief Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad: 277 for 3 in 20 overs (Heinrich Klassen 80 , Travis Head 62, Abhishek Sharma 63; Piyush Chawla 1/34); MI: 246/5 in 20 overs.

Ordinary Bowling : Bhogle On Pandya-led MI Conceding 148 In 10 Overs
The start of their IPL 2024 game against SunRisers Hyderabd, was nothing less than a horror show for the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians. The SRH batters took the MI bowlers to cleaners as they notched in 148/2 in 10 overs. Travis Head slammed a 18-ball half-century while Abhishek Sharma slammed a fifty in 16 balls. No other SRH batter scored a fifty in IPL in less than 20 balls before this match. Against MI, SRH scored 81 - the highest in their IPL history.
Famous cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle summed up the situation quit aptly.
Wow, incredible hitting and now, some ordinary bowling as the outcome of the boundary barrage. I don t think anyone saw this coming. #MI getting dismantled and there is only one Bumrah, Harsha Bhogle posted on X.

Both Hyderabad and Mumbai are coming into this match after losing their previous encounters. SRH conceded a four-run loss against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On the other hand, Mumbai suffered a 6-run defeat against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in their first match of the tournament.
Speaking at the toss, Hardik confirmed that Luke Wood would miss the match against Hyderabad.
We are going to bowl first. Looks like a good track, we were solid in the last game. Didn t plan properly, that cost us the game. 13 games to go, we need to keep doing the right things. We are positive and looking forward to the challenge. Just trying to spend time with all the players. Getting to know them better. One change, Luke misses out, Pandya said.
On the other hand, Cummins said that Jaydev Unadkat will replace T Natarajan. He added that Travis Head will start for Hyderabad for Marco Jansen.
Looks like a good wicket. Not too upset. It s a tough tournament, the crowd and conditions will help. A couple of changes. Head comes in for Jansen. Natarajan has a niggle, Unadkat comes in. We got a great squad, the players playing tonight got to give their everything, Cummins said.

Were Expecting To Chase 190 To 200 : GT Skipper Gill After Loss To CSK
Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill hailed the performance from the Chennai Super Kings and acknowledged that they got outplayed at Chepauk and let themselves down with their batting following their 63-run defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Ruturaj Gaiwkad s captaincy reign saw CSK win their second consecutive game as they pulled off a near flawless performance against GT on a surface that is known to be a bit unpredictable. The young opening batter Rachin Ravindra got CSK to a robust start, while Shivam Dube provided the much-needed firepower through the middle overs and in the final four to power CSK to a massive total.
While defending the total, each bowler chipped in with their precise line and length to fend off GT from chasing the total.
After the game, Gill conceded that they were outplayed by CSK s batting performance and lauded their execution with the ball.
They outplayed us when they were batting and when they bowled, their execution was spot on. We backed ourselves to get a good powerplay score but once we couldn t, we were always playing catch up, Gill said after the match.
In T20, you can always talk about 10-15 runs here and there but eventually it is about how much they got. We were expecting to chase anything between 190 to 200 but we can talk about how we could ve stopped a few more boundaries. Rather have games like these at the start of the tournament. We let ourselves down while batting, he added.
The 63-run defeat marked GT s biggest loss in terms of runs. After putting CSK to bat, an explosive batting performance saw the hosts set a record chase for GT as they posted 206/6 on the board.
In reply, GT struggled to get off to a start as they struggled to muster up runs through the middle phase as the required rate kept rising. CSK kept GT batters at bay and clinched a 63-run win.

Dube No Longer Ducks And Defends Against Short Ball, Thanks To Dhoni
Chennai Super Kings batting coach Mike Hussey is in awe of Shivam Dube for transforming into a batter who no longer ducks or defends when faced with the short ball, an improvement that has been monitored personally by former captain and team talisman Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The 30-year-old Dube was the top-scorer for CSK on Tuesday, striking a 23-ball 51 that included two fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 221.74. The side won by 63 runs against Gujarat Titans.
Got to give a lot of credit to Dube for working tirelessly against the short ball, an area he needed to improve on. Hats off to him, and he is playing with confidence now. He is also dangerous against the spin.
As the teams bowled short balls at him a few years ago, he would only duck and defend. Now, not only he can play the short ones, but he is also able to find boundaries.
So, that s a testament to the work that he has put in and has given it back to the bowlers, forcing them to try something new. It will benefit him in the IPL, and also if he gets a chance to play for his country, it will do him a lot of good, said Hussey.
Dube s improvement has a lot to do with Dhoni personally working with the beefy Mumbai man, his skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad revealed after the match.
Early in his career, short ball had become his shortcoming but this season Dube has managed it well.
Just confidence. When he came here, the management worked with him personally, Mahi bhai worked with him personally. He knows what role he is playing and which bowler to take on. A big plus for us, Gaikwad praised his big-hitting game-changer.
Dube also spoke about the freedom that CSK leadership has given him and he has worked hard to remain prepared for the short balls, now that couple of bouncers are allowed per over.
This franchise (CSK) is something different from all others. They are giving me the freedom. They want me to do better and I also want to win some matches, Dube said after winning Player of the Match award.

Dhoni s Simple Message Before CSK Debutant Hit 2 Consecutive 6s To Rashid
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Sameer Rizvi made an impactful Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday and he talked about the advice he received from the franchise s poster boy and legendary former skipper MS Dhoni ahead of his first appearance at the major level. The fortress at Chepauk stood untouched as the Chennai Super Kings registered a comprehensive 63-run win over the Gujarat Titans on Monday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
During this match, Rizvi, bought by CSK for Rs 8.4 crores in the IPL auction held last year, came in the 19th over and took one of the best T20 bowlers of the world, Rashid Khan, to the cleaners with a massive six on the very first ball he faced in his IPL career. He would go on to hit him for one more six before perishing for a short, but a valuable cameo of 14 in six balls. Despite the amount of runs being not so big, Rizvi s big-hitting and positive intent while facing a world-class bowler stood out. Many lauded the fact that he did not sweat at all in launching Rashid for those two sixes.
In a video posted by the IPL s official X handle, Rizvi said that he was determined to launch any ball coming into his radar, into the skies.

The way the situation was in the 19th over when I was sent, I was going to hit it big if a delivery was on my radar. The very first ball was in my area and I smashed it for a six, said Rizvi, who shot to fame with his performances in the UPT20 League last year.
He scored 455 runs in 10 matches at an average of over 50, with two tons and a fifty. His runs came at a strike rate of over 188. In 11 T20s for UP, he has scored 295 runs at an average of 49.16 and an SR of over 134, with two fifties.
Earlier in February, he smashed a triple century during the Colonel CK Nayadu Trophy quarterfinals against Saurashtra, Rizvi smashed 312 runs in 266 balls. His knocks had 33 fours and 12 sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 117.29.
Rizvi said that he was happy to be picked up by the Yellow franchise since it was his life-long dream to meet Dhoni.
When auction happened, CSK picked me up, I was happy because meeting MS Dhoni was a dream, let alone playing with him. It has been fulfilled. I got to learn a lot from him and the staff. I am trying to learn as much as possible and do well, said the batter.
Recalling Dhoni s advice, Rizvi said that India s World Cup-winning skipper asked him to play his natural game.
MSD has told me to play the way I do, telling me that the game is the same, the skill is the same, but the mindset is different. He has asked me not to feel pressure and to play as per the situation. He told me to take care of my nerves in the first match in front of a huge crowd, said Rizvi.
On his jersey number, Rizvi said that he originally wore number seven but had to settle for number one as his favourite number was already in use by none other than Dhoni.
My jersey number is seven. That belongs to bhaiya (Dhoni). Hence, I could not get it. So I got jersey number one. In this team, everyone loves and supports each other. I was playing IPL for the first time and everyone cheered for me with all their hearts. Whenever I want to ask something, I ask my fellow players. I ask them about the mindset of batting. I want to learn these things, he concluded.
Coming into the match, GT put CSK to bat first. Fiery knocks from Rachin Ravindra (46 in 20 balls, with six fours and three sixes), skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (46 in 36 balls, with five fours and a six) and Dube (51 in 23 balls, with two fours and five sixes) took CSK to 206/6 in 20 overs.
Rashid Khan (2/49) and Spencer Johnson (1/35) were among the picks of the bowlers for GT.
In the run-chase, GT kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Sai Sudharsan (37 in 31 balls, with three fours), Wriddhiman Saha (21 in 17 balls, with four boundaries) and David Miller (21 in 16 balls, with three fours) tried to put up a fight, but it was just not enough. GT was restricted to 143/8 and lost by 63 runs.
Tushar Deshpande (2/21), Deepak Chahar (2/28) and Mustafizur Rahman (2/30) were the top bowlers for CSK.
Dube took home the Player of the Match award.

Keep Him Around The T20 World Cup Team : Aakash Chopra Praises CSK Star
Former India opener Aakash Chopra lauded Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Shivam Dube and said that the left-hand batter should be there in the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 following his match-winning performance against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 fixture on Tuesday. The fortress at Chepauk stood untouched as the CSK registered a comprehensive 63-run win over the GT in the ongoing IPL 2024 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Dube was awarded the Player of the Match for his knock of 51 runs from 23 balls with the help of five sixes and two fours at a strike rate of 221.74.
The Delhi-born cricketer asserted that the number at which Dube bats (No. 5 or No. 6) there is no Indian batter who slams sixes better than him.
Although I should talk about Ruturaj Gaikwad as well because he batted well and maturely after getting a life, I am going to go with Shivam Dube. How well is he playing? The number at which Shivam Dube bats, around No. 5 or No. 6, is there any Indian who hits sixes better than him? Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Chopra further stated that no one has the strength that the left-hander possesses. The southpaw can smash the sixes into the stands while standing inside the crease.
He hits sixes into the stands while standing in his position. No one has that much strength and no one hits that consistently as well. He used to have a problem against short balls but it s not there anymore. I do not see anything lacking at this point in time. Keep him around the T20 World Cup team, the former cricketer added.
In the end, the commentator said that the pitches in Florida, New York, and West Indies are slow and the grounds are big so the Men in Blue needs a powerful hitter like Dube on their side.
Whether it s the grounds in Florida, New York or the Caribbean, the pitches are slow and the grounds are big. So you need a powerful batter there, which he actually is. So he is going to be in my scheme of things for the World Cup, the 46-year-old concluded.
The ICC Men s T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies begins on June 1. India will be in action on June 5 when they take on Ireland before attention shifts to the high-octane clash against Pakistan on June 9, both of which will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Rohit Completes Rare And Historic Double Century For Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter and former Indian Premier League (IPL) skipper Rohit Sharma is playing his 200th match in the league for his franchise on Wednesday. He has been named in the playing XI for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. SRH and MI are taking on each other in an IPL 2024 clash in Hyderabad. Both teams started with narrow losses of four runs and six runs to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT), respectively, in their campaign openers.
Rohit has been an absolute legend for the Mumbai Indians. Since joining the franchise as a bright up-and-coming talent back in 2011, Rohit has played 199 IPL matches in Blue and Gold clothing, scoring 5,084 runs at an average of 29.39 and a strike rate of 129.86. He has scored a century and 34 fifties in 195 innings for MI, with the best score of 109*.
After taking over the captaincy of the franchise from Ricky Ponting in 2013, Rohit took MI to their golden period, winning the trophy five times in 10 years (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020) and reaching playoffs twice. Hardik Pandya replaced him as the captain last year after making a move to the franchise that made him a star following two great years with the Gujarat Titans (GT), including the title-winning debut season in 2022.
Rohit has also won two Champions League T20 titles with MI in 2011 and 2013, the latter as a captain. The Hitman is MI s all-time highest run-getter, scoring 5,357 runs in 208 matches and 204 innings at an average of 29.59 and a strike rate of almost 130, with a century and 35 fifties in 204 innings.
As a youngster, Rohit also represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, a former Hyderabad franchise from 2008-2010. He played 45 matches for the team, scoring 1,170 runs at an average of 30.79 and a strike rate of over 131, with eight fifties in 44 innings. His best score was 76*. He won the IPL 2009 season with this franchise, making him a six-time IPL champion.
The veteran batter is the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL history, scoring 6,254 runs in 244 matches at an average of 29.63 and a strike rate of 130.15. He scored a century and 42 fifties in 239 innings, with the best score of 109*.
As someone who has led MI for so long, Rohit is an institution in himself, with him and MI shaping the career trajectories of many future Indian stars like Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Ambati Rayadu, etc.

During CSK s match against Gujarat Titans on Wednesday, MS Dhoni took a brilliant catch of Vijay Shankar, the video of which went viral.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings batter Sameer Rizvi credited Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his small but quick and impactful knock in his first IPL match, saying the talismanic former India skipper advised him to play his natural game when he went out to bat against Gujarat Giants.
Against GT on Tuesday night, Rizvi played a cameo of six-ball 14-run knock, which included two sixes against Rashid Khan.
Bhaiya (Dhoni) told me to play how I generally play since it is all about the actual gameplay. He said, There is nothing different. Skills remain the same, and it s all just about mindset. Never take any pressure or be nervous, and play as per the situation , he said in a video on IPLT20.com.
Rizvi recalled the moment he was picked up by the franchise during the auction ahead of the season for a whopping Rs 8.4 crore, as he felt that his dream of meeting Dhoni will eventually come true.
When I was picked up during the auction by CSK, my greatest happiness was my dream to meet Bhaiya (MS Dhoni) would be fulfilled. We also had net sessions together and got to learn a lot from him and the (support) staff. I intend to learn more and perform to the fullest. Having played cricket for Uttar Pradesh, he has decent T20 numbers, scoring 309 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 137.33, including two half-centuries.
Speaking about his jersey number, the 20-year-old Meerut batter said, My jersey number is seven, which is currently worn by Bhaiya and I can t get it. So, I liked the number 1, and I took it. Rizvi also talked about the positive atmosphere in the CSK dressing room.
Everyone loves each other in the team and backs everyone. The thought process of hitting the six in my first ball came out of my heart, and the team members also cheered for me with all their hearts, he said.
Whenever I have a query in mind, I ask everyone in the team, be it in batting or fielding, about their mentality while going to bat. Learning these small things would benefit me in the long run, he concluded.
CSK beat GT by 63 runs on Tuesday and has two wins in as many games. They will next play Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

Heinrich Klassen (80) and Aiden Markram (42) provided the late charge to take the hosts past the 250-mark. In reply, MI were two wicket down at the score of 66 before Tilak Varma (64 off 34) and Naman Dhir (30 off 14) stitched a solid 84-run partnership to give the side a solid hope. Highlights of IPL 2024 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians:Watch: Gill s Brain Fade Moment As GT Captain Overturns Toss Call vs CSK
Shubman Gill had a forgettable outing in the match against Chennai Super Kings as his team lost by 63 runs. Chennai Super Kings batters dazzled before the bowlers ran riot to choke Gujarat Titans in a comprehensive 63-run victory in their second IPL match on Tuesday. Ruturaj Gaikwad s team has covered all its bases and it was evident as Rachin Ravindra prepared a platform with 20-ball-46 allowing Shivam Dube to unlock his beast mode with a 23-ball-51.
In between, Gaikwad himself maintained the balance with 36-ball-46 as Chennai s 206 for 6 was a Herculean total in every sense. Titans in reply could manage only 143/8 as Chahar (2/28 in 4 overs), Mustafizur Rahman (2/30 in 4 overs), Tushar Deshpande (2/21) and Matheesha Pathirana (1/29 in 4 overs) one by one tightened the noose on Titans batting unit.
There was a funny moment at the toss of the match as Shubman Gill chose to bowl after saying he wanted to bat.

Dhoni, Gaikwad Leading CSK Together? Chahar Admits Captaincy Confusion
The change of guard has officially taken place at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with Ruturaj Gaikwad replacing MS Dhoni as the captain of the franchise. The decision was communicated just a day before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was to begin. While a change has taken place on paper, how big a say does Ruturaj have when it comes to decision-making on the field, in comparison to Dhoni? CSK pacer Deepak Chahar admitted there s confusion as he has been seeking instructions from both Dhoni and Ruturaj over the first two games of the campaign.
The Super Kings kicked off the 17th season of the T20 league by winning their first two matches, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). While the results show Gaikwad getting off to a 100% start, it seems like the transfer of the baton from Dhoni hasn t fully taken place yet.
I got to look at Mahi (MSD) bhai and at Ruturaj - both of them these days for field placements and all. So there is a bit of confusion where to look now but Ruturaj is doing well and he is leading the way, Chahar said in a chat with the broadcaster after the match on Tuesday.
Chahar also opened up on his role in the franchise, since the captaincy change from Dhoni to Ruturaj took place. Not much has changed for him, as he remains the franchise s go-to player when taking wickets in the powerplay.
Since the time I have been playing, I have been bowling 3 overs in the powerplay, used to it, just trying to bowl as well as possible with the new rules around, he said.
Chahar also spoke about the new rule in IPL that allows a bowler to deliver two bouncers in an over. The seamer is delighted to have the option as it helps pacers up their game.
Earlier, if you bowled a bouncer in the first 2-3 balls, batters were always ready for a full-length ball, but this new rule with two bouncers allowed in an over, it helps all the pacers. There s bounce always, but there s not much dew around at the moment. The ball grips and bounces in such conditions, he asserted.
Chahar was brilliant with the new ball for CSK, picking up the wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Shuban Gill while producing figures of 2/28 in 4 overs.
Stars Frustrated, Militant Coach : Star All-Rounder Blasts KKR s Pandit
Chandrakant Pandit is a domestic cricket legend in India. Under his coaching Mumbai, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh enjoyed much success in the Ranji Trophy. From 2023, Pandit has been associated with Kolkata Knight Riders as coach. Under him, Kolkata Knight Riders put up a fighting show despite some top stars missing from action in IPL 2023. However, his entry was not liked by several overseas stars, according to David Wiese. The all-rounder played in three matches for KKR in IPL 2023
There were certain issues going on behind the scenes in the team. Guys weren t happy with certain things that were going on, and a lot of the times, it was a tough changing room. There was a new coach coming in and he liked to do things a certain way, and that didn t sit well with the players, David Wiese said Hitman for Hire: A year in the life of a franchise cricketer podcast hosted by Sam Keir.
He went on to say that some of the KKR stars were frustrated under Chandrakant Pandit.
Guys were frustrated because a lot changed, and the coach brought in things that he thought would bring success. But as an overseas player, they sometimes don t sit well. He s known in India as a fairly militant type of coach, a strict disciplinarian. The overseas guys who ve played all over the world don t need someone coming in and telling him how to behave and what to wear and what to do. I was chill with it, but there were players more stubborn than me, he added.
As the tournament goes on, you kind of sense whether you have a shot at qualifying or not. It s not about whether you re playing; it s just about spending another couple of weeks away from family. For me personally, the result of the game didn t matter that much, but I still got pulled into personal performances.
He also mentioned Rinku Singh in the course of his conversation.
As a player, you appreciate it when guys do well. Rinku Singh smacks five sixes - you can t not appreciate that. It s just that the result doesn t have much emphasis anymore. You don t sit there nervous about whether you re going to win. And you start investing in the guys personal performances instead.
Pandya Going To Get Booed Louder In Mumbai : Ex India Star s Big Warning
Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary expects Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya to be booed a bit louder when the team plays its first home IPL game here on April 1 but he feels that the flamboyant all-rounder has the temperament to deal with it. Pandya, who replaced Rohit Sharma as MI captain before the start of the season, was booed by fans in Ahmedabad when the side played against his former franchise Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
MI lost the match by six runs and will take on Rajasthan Royals in their first home game at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday next week.
...you have to see how he gets welcomed here in Mumbai because I think he is going to get booed a bit louder here...Because as a fan, Mumbai fan or a Rohit Sharma fan, nobody expected that captaincy will be given to Hardik, Tiwary told PTI Videos in an interview.
And despite Rohit giving five trophies to Mumbai Indians, he has to lose the captaincy. I don t know what are the reasons but I think it has not gone down well with the fans. And that is the reaction which you see on the field, he explained.
Tiwary is, however, impressed with how Pandya has dealt with fan backlash.
...knowing him, whatever I have been observing of late through television, that despite getting booed, he kept his calm, he kept his nerve, which is the sign of a good temperament, he said.
The 38-year-old, who is the sports minister of West Bengal, said Pandya will have to cut out the noise and focus on his performance so that he is in good shape for the T20 World Cup starting June 1 in the Americas.
I believe even if he was not booed, he has to perform well to get into the Indian team to play the World cup. Because it is important for all the players to perform well and be fit as well to be available for selection.
And him being the number one all-rounder...obviously he has to be in form and to be in form he has to perform, he said.
Tiwary competed for the Delhi franchise in the IPL and he is keenly observing how his former team is handling Rishabh Pant s comeback from a life-threatening car accident in 2022.
He believes the big-hitter would be back to his devastating best very soon thanks to the unflinching support of the franchise.
First of all, he s not going to be any burden. In fact, it s going to be more positive impact which he brings along with him because as a player, he s one of the most talented cricketers in India, in fact in the world cricket right now, he pointed out.
Obviously in the first game, he did not look at his fluent best but that is obvious because it s not easy after coming back from injury...But the intent was good from him. With a few more matches, he will be back in his elements as a match-winner, Tiwary said.
Tiwary said the backing of coach Ricky Ponting and mentor Sourav Ganguly has been a key factor in aiding Pant s comeback.
From last year itself, the coach of the team, Ricky Ponting, brought him into the dugout...if we all can recollect, two months ago, Sourav Ganguly said that he s going to be the captain.
So when the mentor and the coach wants him in the team from very early, that means they are not thinking him as a burden. Even if he doesn t score runs, he is still their captain, he is their leader, he said.

Kohli Fan Thrashed For Hugging RCB Star Mid-match? Fans Claim So In Video
A video has gone viral on social media in which a fan could be seen getting thrashed by security staff. Social media users have claimed that the fan in the video is the same person who touched Virat Kohli s feet and hugged him on the ground as Royal Challengers Bengaluru took on Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Monday. The fan was taken out of the ground after he breached security to meet Kohli on the pitch. Now, the viral video has claimed that he was beaten up by security staff at the stadium itself.
In the video, the security staff could be seen hitting the fan brutally. However, whether it s the same fan or not, hasn t been ascertained yet. Here s the video:
WTH!!!!!
What kind of behavior is this chapri @RCBTweets
You don t have the right to touch anyone. Then what s the use of Law?
You can keep him in Jail/ Fine but you re attacking him in the stadium itself
Remember once VK leaves, even don t care about you @RCBTweets pic.twitter.com/vcb7tUngGQ
As for the match, Kohli registered a unique record during the match. The opener completed his 100th T20 fifty-plus score, becoming the first Indian and overall only third player to do so. In the match, the 35-year-old was back at his vintage best following a disappointing game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He scored 77 runs in 49 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes.
He scored his runs at a strike rate of over 157. In 378 appearances, Virat has scored 12,092 runs at an average of 41.26, with eight centuries and 92 fifties. His best score is 122*. Virat is India s leading T20 run getter and overall sixth. In terms of most fifty-plus scores, above Virat are: West Indies batting great Chris Gayle (110 fifty-plus scores including 22 centuries) and Australian great David Warner (109 fifty-plus scores including eight centuries).
Coming to the match, Punjab Kings (PBKS) saw their batters getting starts but none of them could convert it into something big. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan (45 in 37 balls with five fours and a six), Jitesh Sharma (27 in 20 balls with a four and two sixes) and Sam Curran (23 in 17 balls) played decent knocks, but on a batting friendly Chinnaswammy track, PBKS could muster only 176/6 in 20 overs.

Video: Rohit Recreates Flying Kiss That Led To Hefty Fine For KKR Star
Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Harshit Rana recently grabbed the headlines as he gave a cheeky send-off to Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Mayank Agarwal after dismissing him during their IPL 2024 match in Kolkata on Saturday. Mayank looked in great touch but on the third ball of the sixth over, he tried to pull a bouncer from Rana and ended up gifting a catch to the fielder at deep backward square leg. Rana was ecstatic at taking his first wicket of this edition and he celebrated by blowing a flying kiss towards the batter.
The act resulted a hefty fine for Harshit Rana. Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harshit Rana has been fined a total of 60 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23.
Rana committed two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the IPL s Code of Conduct. He was fined 10 percent and 50 percent of his match fees for the two respective offences. Rana admitted to the two offences and accepted the Match Referee s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee s decision is final and binding, a release from IPL read.
Mumbai Indians captains Rohit Sharma recreated the gesture with Mayank Agarwal ahead of their match on Wednesday.

— KKR Vibe (@KnightsVibe) March 27, 2024Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar was not impressed with Harshit Rana as he had his say about the matter on commentary.
He should not have done that. Did the batsman do anything to him when he was hitting him for sixes? Cricket can be played without these antics. It s the age of television. I understand that. Celebrate with your teammates but no need for such antics for the opposition, he said on commentary.
Cricket Australia CEO Desires To Host India-Pakistan Bilateral Series
Cricket Australia (CA) has expressed the desire to host a bilateral series between India and Pakistan if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) agree to clash in a bilateral contest in future for the first time in 12 years. India and Pakistan Cricket Team are set to visit Australia for their respective series in November. Where on one side India will travel to play a five-match Test series starting on November 22 at Perth and on the other hand Pakistan s side will play a three-match ODI and T20I series against the Men in Yellow.
India and Australia last played a bilateral series in 2012-13 and since then both teams have locked horns against each other either in the Asia Cup or in the ICC events.
Following the mega success of the 2022 T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where 90,293 fans witnessed a last-ball thriller which saw Virat Kohli play an iconic knock of 82*, CA, the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCG operators), and the Victorian government have now expressed interest in two teams at the MCG, which could be a great move for them financially.
Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Nick Hockley opined that they would be happy to host the bilateral series between India and Pakistan at the iconic MCG if they get an opportunity.
I think anyone that was here for the India-Pakistan game at the MCG, it will go down as one of the most memorable occasions, not just sporting occasions, that I ve ever been to. So people want to see that contest. We would love to host that if the opportunity arose. If we can play a role, we d love to play a role, Hockley stated as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
We re so excited to host Pakistan. We re so excited to host India. If we can help, that s great. But I think in many ways, that s a bilateral series. It s really for others to make that happen, the CA CEO added.
CA s head of scheduling, Peter Roach, admitted on Tuesday that Australia would also be interested in hosting a tri-series, which last occurred between India and Pakistan during the 1999-2000 season, rather than just a neutral bilateral series, but he noted that there was not sufficient space in the current Future Tours Programme (FTP).
We haven t got a tri-series in the FTP. Going forward we re always interested in opportunities for matches and contests that will engage our fans. It s fair to say every country in the world would love to see India and Pakistan compete in their country, Roach asserted.
We re on record as saying we re one of those countries that has asked the question. There s no room in the schedules to do that at the moment. We ll keep talking to them in any other opportunities that arise, but in this specific example there are not going to be any changes to the schedule, he concluded.

Come On Rishabh! : Ashwin Encourages Pant To Hit Sixes In Viral Video
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Jaipur, a heartwarming scene was captured during the practice session between India teammates Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin. Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals will be taking on each other in their second IPL 2024 clash in Jaipur. While RR started with a 20-run win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), DC started off their campaign with a defeat to the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets.
During the practice session, Ashwin was standing behind Rishabh s practice net and boosted his morale with a few words of encouragement. The star wicketkeeper-batter, who just made his return to competitive cricket after December 2022 after surviving a life-threatening accident, wasted no time and sent the ball flying into the skies.
All these years, Pant had Ash s back. And today, it was about time... #RoyalsFamily | #IPL2024 | #RRvDC | #reelkarofeelkaro | #reelitfeelit | #explore, tweeted RR.
This interaction between two Indian stars reminds fans of the many chirpy interactions Rishabh and Ashwin have had while playing for India. It is common to hear Rishabh encourage Ashwin from behind the stumps, saying, Come on, Ash! Come on Ash! and the spinner coming up with his very best deliveries to trouble the batters.
All these years, Pant had Ash s back. And today, it was about time… pic.twitter.com/7fuKYmHYaO
— Rajasthan Royals (@rajasthanroyals) March 26, 2024This time around, the tables have turned. In what is possibly their first public interaction since Rishabh s accident, Ashwin took on the batter s role, stood behind the wickets and encouraged Pant who has just made an inspirational comeback to the field to do what he does best: hit bowlers for sixes.
Rishabh s comeback inning during the Punjab match saw him score 18 in 13 balls, with two fours. The young wicketkeeper-batter will be raring to do much better this time around and entertain the Jaipur crowd.
