Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) once held the promise of being the future of automotive mobility, but the worldwide situation is changing. Regulatory rollbacks, slowing consumer adoption, and renewed investment in internal combustion and hybrid technologies are forcing manufacturers to expand their strategies.

Remember Volkswagen s Scalable Systems Platform, or SSP, which is a modular electric vehicle architecture? It s been more than four years since the German automaker announced the SSP, the all-encompassing electric vehicle of the OEM. Volkswagen s Scalable Systems Platform was originally expected to be ready by now, but it has been delayed until later this decade. This setback has been attributed to Volkswagen s software division Cariad. However, the auto major is revealing new details of the SSP.

Hyundai India has claimed that it has sold more than 4,000 units of the Creta Electric SUV so far in the Indian market. The electric SUV, which is the most affordable EV in Hyundai s India portfolio, competes in a segment where Tata Motors has a strong presence with its range of electric SUVs.

Soon after the Model Y was seen testing with camouflage in India, the Tesla Model Y Juniper has now also been spotted on Indian roads covered in a full black wrap. The photos have been shared by a user on the social media platform Reddit. Though slightly blurry, the multiple close-up images give us a better idea of what the first Tesla car in India will look like.

Ola Electric has announced that they are offering benefits worth ₹10,000 with its Roadster electric motorcycle. The company is offering a free extended warranty for the battery pack, free MoveOS+ and free service of essential care. It is important to note that this offer is applicable only to the first 5,000 customers.

Vietnamese carmaker VinFast announced its foray into the Indian market a while back and even showcased its entire range at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January. The automaker has now confirmed its launch plans for India, which will kick off later this year with the launch of its maiden offerings, the VF7 and VF6. Both electric SUVs have been designed and developed in Vietnam, but will be adapted for Indian conditions. The automaker has also confirmed that bookings for both offerings will begin in June this year.

These offers however are limited, only available to the first 5,000 riders. Ola is offering three benefits under the offer including a free extended warranty for the battery, a free subscription to MoveOS+ and a free ‘Essential Care’ service with the two-wheeler.

Honda has taken the wraps off its first-ever electric motorcycle. The new Honda E-VO remains specific to China at the moment, and is being built in collaboration with the brand’s local partner, Guangzhou. Honda’s maiden e-motorcycle is a café racer-styled offering bringing a retro touch to the otherwise modern package. The new Honda E-VO will be sold under the Wuyang-Honda brand in China for now.

Tata EV has teased the much-awaited Harrier EV over social media just days ahead of its launch. The Tata Harrier EV is slated to launch on June 3 as the new flagship for the Indian carmaker s electric vehicle portfolio. The teaser showcases the SUV at the edge of a mountain, ready to climb to the peak. However, the mystery is not revealed yet and it is expected that the Harrier EV will be showcased, tackling the steep incline in the full advertisement will be released later. Tata Motors is preparing to launch its fourth electric vehicle in the Indian market. It will be the Harrier EV which will go against the Mahindra XEV 9e. The Harrier EV will be the new flagship electric vehicle for the brand, which means that it will sit above the Curvv EV. The homegrown manufacturer will launch the electric SUV on June 3rd, and now it has been spotted on the Mumbai Pune Expressway, that too without any camouflage.

Tata Motors launched the updated Altroz premium hatchback in the Indian market earlier this week at an introductory starting price of ₹6.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The premium hatchback now comes available in petrol, diesel and CNG fuel options, while transmission choices include manual, automatic and AMT units. In fact, Tata Altroz is the only premium hatchback in the Indian market that comes with a diesel engine.

Bengaluru-based electric motorcycle maker Oben Electric has announced its new platform that will underpin a new range of affordable electric motorcycles. The upcoming Oben ‘O100’ platform will spawn a new sub ₹1 lakh electric bike, an equivalent to the entry-level 100 cc commuter motorcycles. This will be Oben’s second indigenous platform after the ARX.

MG Motor India has announced to have delivered 150 units of the recently launched Windsor EV Pro on a single day in Bengaluru. The deliveries for the MG Windsor Pro commenced on May 16, 2025. The EV was launched recently and secured 8,000 bookings in just 24 hours. It is the new top-end variant in Windsor s lineup and comes with several new features over the standard Windsor EV.

Hero MotoCorp is all set to expand its electric two-wheeler range under the Vida brand. The company revealed the development during the latest earning call for FY2025. The company’s senior management revealed that the brand plans to bring two new electric two-wheelers by July this year, which will be more affordable. At present, Hero’s electric mobility brand ‘Vida’ retails the V2 electric scooter in three variants - V2 Lite, V2 Plus, and V2 Pro.

German auto giant Volkswagen is the latest of the big carmakers to drop its EV-specific nomenclature on models. The automaker has confirmed it will be moving away from the “ID prefix that has so far defined its electric vehicle range, as it expands with newer products. The upcoming Volkswagen ID. 1 and ID. 2 small electric cars will be the first future offerings to get conventional names.

The MG Windsor EV Pro was recently launched with a starting price of ₹17.49 lakh, ex-showroom, which has now been increased to ₹18.09 lakh. One of the biggest changes to the Windsor Pro over the standard Windsor EV is the larger 52.9 kWh battery pack as compared to the 38 kWh battery pack that the Windsor EV gets.

Mercedes-AMG, the performance division of the German luxury car manufacturer, is working on a new super electric sedan, which is expected to debut sometime next month, and has been revealed through a set of teaser images. Upon arrival, it will replace the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. While the OEM previously released a shadowy teaser image previewing the upcoming car’s silhouette, the new set of images provides a clearer look at the unnamed car.
